Eight games just landed on Xbox Game Pass in the span of two weeks, and three of them arrived day one.

Microsoft and the crew at Xbox On — Benny, Leah, Sam, and Charleyy — broke down the service’s latest wave of additions rolling out across late May and early June 2019. The lineup mixes a cult survival spin-off, a pair of tactical RPGs, and a trio of indie darlings making their subscription debut the same day they hit shelves.

• Eight titles are joining Xbox Game Pass between May 23 and June 6, 2019, including three day-one releases: Void Bastards, Outer Wilds, and Superhot.

The May Rollout

The wave kicked off May 23 with Konami’s Metal Gear Survive, the divisive co-op-focused spin-off of the Metal Gear franchise, paired with Stoic’s The Banner Saga, the hand-drawn Viking tactics RPG that built a cult following on its combat-and-consequence formula. Six days later, on May 29, Blue Manchu’s Void Bastards arrived as a day-one Game Pass release — a comic-book-styled strategy shooter set aboard a derelict prison fleet, giving subscribers first crack at a brand-new title the same day it launched at retail.

May 30 brought a two-for-one: Mobius Digital’s Outer Wilds, the space-exploration adventure built around a 22-minute time loop, also debuted day one on the service, while Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight joined as well, bringing its four-against-one survival horror formula to a fresh audience of Game Pass subscribers who’d likely never touched the 2016 original.

The June Additions

The rollout closed out on June 6 with three more titles: Cellar Door Games’ cooperative brawler Full Metal Furies, the tactical sequel The Banner Saga 2, and Superhot Team’s Superhot, the shooter where time only moves when the player does. That last one in particular had built a reputation as one of the more inventive indie releases of the decade, and its arrival on Game Pass meant subscribers could try the “time moves when you move” gimmick without paying full retail price.

Void Bastards and Outer Wilds didn’t just join Game Pass — they launched on it, day one, the same day they hit shelves anywhere else.

Value Provided to Paid Subscribers

At the time, standard Xbox Game Pass cost $9.99 per month for access to more than 100 titles on Xbox One, with Microsoft running a promotional offer that gave new subscribers their first three months for a single dollar. That pricing made the eight-game wave — layered on top of a May slate that already included Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Wargroove, Tacoma, and Surviving Mars — a lot of value packed into a short stretch for anyone who hadn’t yet signed up.

This particular wave also landed just ahead of a bigger shift for the service: Microsoft was gearing up to announce Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate around E3 2019, expanding the subscription well beyond the console-only model these eight titles were still operating under.
