Happy Mario Day!
What if the original Mario Bros. was a first-person shooter made in Unreal Engine 4? That’s the question Twitter user @SeanNoonan asks, and the answer is, it’d be pretty awesome actually.
What inspired Kaze Emanuar to create Super Mario Bros.: FPS?
Fan Reimagines Super Mario Bros. as an Unreal FPS – Gameplay
The iconic Italian plumber Mario has been a popular character in the gaming world since he made his debut in 1985’s Super Mario Bros. over three decades ago. Fans of the series have always had a great love and passion for the character, making fan games and mods for years. However, one talented fan took it to another level by reimagining the beloved game of Super Mario Bros. as an Unreal First-Person Shooter.
The fan-made game is called Super Mario Bros.: FPS and is not an official game from Nintendo. The fan, known as Kaze Emanuar, used the Unreal Engine 4 to create the game on PC. The game is inspired by the original Super Mario Bros. game, but with a modern twist that makes it a completely different gaming experience for players.
The gameplay of Super Mario Bros.: FPS is not your typical Mario game. It has a completely different feel with a first-person perspective and resembling an FPS game like Doom. The game is set in the Mushroom Kingdom that has been invaded by Bowser’s army, and Mario is on a mission to save Princess Peach and defeat Bowser once and for all. The levels of the game are primarily based on the original game, but the enemies, items, and the environment are entirely different, making it a fresh experience for even the most avid Mario fan.
The game has many of the classic Mario elements such as jumping, collecting coins, power-ups, and defeating enemies. However, the game is scaled up quite a bit in difficulty compared to the original game, as players will be challenged with new obstacles and enemies such as bullet bills, chain chomps, and goombas shooting in all directions. The game also allows players to use different guns and weapons to take on the enemies, which is not something commonly seen in the Mario franchise.
Despite being a fan-made game, the graphics of Super Mario Bros.: FPS are exceptional. The game’s visuals have been designed to replicate the classic Super Mario Bros. while using the stunning graphics offered by the Unreal Engine 4. Everything from the animations of enemies, the textures on the blocks and coins to the usage of light and shadows creates a memorable experience for players.
In conclusion, Super Mario Bros.: FPS is an impressive fan-made game that reimagines a classic game from our childhood in a completely different way. The game is a fresh take on the Mario franchise, blending it with the popular FPS genre seamlessly. This game is an excellent addition to the fan-made Mario games that we have seen in recent years, and we hope that Nintendo takes notice to make something just as innovative in the future.
